Cowboy Trio Reaches Double Figures In Loss To TCU

Fort Worth, Texas ----- Leyton Hammonds led the way for Oklahoma State with 16 points in a 63-56 loss to Texas Christian University at the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena on Monday.
Hammonds finished shooting six-of-nine from the field, including four-of-seven from behind the arc. 11 of his points came in the second-half comeback effort.
The Horned Frogs led by 10 at the final media timeout but the Cowboys didn't give in. A pair of Jeffrey Carroll free throws cut the deficit to eight before a Hammonds three off a Tyree Griffin assist cut the TCU lead to 55-51 with 2:18 left.
TCU took advantage at the free throw line the final minute of play to hang on for the win.
Both teams had slow offensive starts in the first half after Oklahoma State scored first thanks to a Carroll three.
TCU led 6-5 at the first media timeout, but a Hammonds three off a Griffin assist tied the game at 8 five minutes into the game.
The teams went five minutes without scoring after the shot until Carroll's free throws extended the Oklahoma State lead to 11-8 with 9:20 remaining until halftime.
A Jeff Newberry three off another Griffin assist gave the Cowboys the lead once more at 15-12 with 7:13 left in the half.
Griffin eventually scored the final five points of the half for Oklahoma State to give the Cowboys a 25-19 lead at halftime.
Brandon Parrish led the way for TCU with 15 points.
Alongside Hammonds, the Cowboys also had an impact performance from Griffin and Carroll. Griffin finished with 12 points and five assists while Carroll finished with 10 points and six assists.
