Kansas State Postgame Notes
February 13, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Jeff Newberry was back to his usual stat-stuffing self. The senior posted his second career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and also added five assists, three steals and two blocks. It is his second 10-plus rebound game of the season.
- Newberry hit what would have been the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer, but a video review showed that the senior still had the ball in his hand when the backboard lights illuminated.
- Leyton Hammonds led the way with 13, and has now reached double-figures in scoring in each of the last six games.
- Today's win snapped OSU's five-game skid in Big 12 play, and moved the Cowboys to 12-13, 3-9 on the year.
- The Cowboys have now won four straight in Stillwater over K-State, and 15 of the last 16. OSU is 33-24 all-time in Stillwater against the Wildcats.
- Under Travis Ford, OSU is 88-6 at Gallagher-Iba Arena against unranked opponents.
- The Cowboys and Wildcats have now split their regular season series for a fourth straight season.
- The Cowboys played in their third overtime game this season, but had lost the previous two that went to an extra period.
- The final 3:19 of regulation featured four lead changes and two ties.
- OSU forced 11 K-State turnovers in the opening half, which are the most by any OSU opponent in a first half this season. The Cowboys turned those 11 turnovers into 10 points.
- After holding the Wildcats to 22 first-half points, OSU has now held its last four opponents to 23 points or less in the opening frame.
- Oklahoma State jumped out to an 11-4 advantage and rode that momentum into a 27-22 halftime lead. OSU is 11-5 this season when leading at the half.
- Mitchell Solomon posted two first half blocks, which gave the sophomore his second multi-block game of the season and the seventh of his career.
- The Cowboys started Tyree Griffin, Jeff Newberry, Leyton Hammonds, Jeffrey Carroll and Mitchell Solomon for the third straight game.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 508 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
- The Cowboys have blocked at least one shot in every game this season.
