Oklahoma State Game Notes

On the Air
• ESPNews will have all the action between the Cowboys and Wildcats starting Saturday at Noon Central. Mark Neely and Dino Gaudio will have the call. As always, the game can be heard on the Cowboy Radio Network with Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb. Sirius channel 119 and XM channel 200 will carry the Cowboy Radio Network call.
Kansas State Snapshot
• The Wildcats are coming off a successful homestand in which they nearly knocked off a pair of ranked squads. K-State handed then No. 1/1 Oklahoma just their fourth loss on the year, 80-69, on Saturday evening. No. 21/19 Baylor managed an 82-72 win in Bramlage Coliseum on Wednesday night.
• Freshman Dean Wade is the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after posting 17 points in the win over the Sooners. On the year, Wade is averaging 10.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
• Wesley Iwundu is the engine behind the Wildcat attack. The junior leads K-State with 12.7 points and 3.5 assists, while also averaging 4.7 rebounds and a 50.7 field goal clip. Iwundu has three 20-point games to his credit this season.
Oklahoma State Snapshot
• The Cowboys field a solid defensive unit that ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring defense at 66.3 points per game. OSU is holding its opponents to 39.9 percent shooting, which ranks second in the league. The Cowboys defense starts at the rim, where they rank third in the Big 12 with 4.4 blocked shots per game. The Cowboys have held their Big 12 opponents to 69.7 points and 42.5 percent shooting, which ranks second and fourth in the conference, respectively.
• Leyton Hammonds' game has evolved tremendously since his arrival in Stillwater in 2013. Primarily a spot shooter in his first two seasons, the junior has molded himself into a stretch forward with the ability to drive or pull up with a formidable 12-foot jumper. Hammonds has reached double figures 11 times this year, including each of the last five games.
• The Cowboys have put themselves in position to win nearly every Big 12 game this season. Five of OSU's nine league losses have been by five points or less, and Monday's loss at TCU was a two-possession ballgame inside the last two minutes. OSU was tied with both No. 13 Iowa State and No. 17 Baylor inside the final two minutes, and fell to Texas Tech on the last shot of overtime. The potential game-winning 3-pointer rimmed out for the Cowboys against No. 2 Oklahoma, while a furious second half rally whittled Texas' lead to just three points with 14 seconds on the clock.
• Oklahoma State has been without captain and leading scorer Phil Forte (left elbow) for the last 21 games, and has played without one of the nation's top freshmen, Jawun Evans (right shoulder), for the last two.
• Forte had played 102 straight games for OSU, and is just 55 three-pointers shy of the program's career record of 299. He was the unquestioned leader of the team throughout the offseason, and his 1,307 career points rank 22nd in program history. At the time of his injury, he ranked third in the Big 12 in career scoring and third in the country in career 3-pointers.
• Evans was having one of the best all-around seasons ever by an OSU point guard, and ranked third among all freshmen nationwide with 4.9 assists per game. A three-time winner of the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award, Evans is one of just five players in school history to average at least 4.9 assists and 10.0 points per game, and he is the only one of those players to also pull down more than 4.0 rebounds per game. His 42-point outing against No. 2 Oklahoma is the third highest scoring performance in school history.
• Head coach Travis Ford ranks third in school history in both total wins (154) and win percentage (59.7 percent). Ford ranks behind only Eddie Sutton and Mr. Henry Iba in both categories, and recently picked up his 21st win over a ranked opponent with the victory over No. 3 KU.
Inside the Kansas State Series
• OSU has held five straight opponents to 69 points or fewer, and only one squad has managed to top the 80-point plateau against the Cowboys this season - K-State, who scored an OSU opponent season high 89 points on Jan. 23 in Manhattan. The Cowboys rank second in the Big 12 in scoring defense at 66.3 points allowed per game.
• The Cowboys have won 14 of the last 15 meetings against K-State in Gallagher-Iba Arena dating back to 1994. Oklahoma State's only loss in GIA over that span came on Jan. 21, 2012 when the No. 25 Wildcats topped an unranked OSU squad, 66-58.
• The Wildcats lead the overall series with Oklahoma State, 77-51, although the Cowboys are 32-24 in Stillwater against Kansas State. K-State holds a slight 8-6 advantage over the Cowboys in the Ford era after last month's game in Manhattan, where the Wildcats have won the last five meetings.
• The Cowboys overcame a 15-point deficit to beat the Wildcats, 75-69, in overtime on Jan. 2, 1999. The victory is the third biggest comeback by an OSU team in a Big 12 game. Adrian Peterson led the Cowboys that day with 24 points and nine boards.
An Oklahoma State Win Would ...
• Extend OSU's three game win streak over K-State in Stillwater to four, and snap their two-game win streak in the series overall. A win would give OSU wins in 15 of the last 16 meetings in Stillwater.
• Snap OSU's five-game losing streak in Big 12 play, which is the program's longest since dropping seven straight league games in 2013-14.
• Move the Cowboys to 12-13 overall and 3-9 in Big 12 play, and give Travis Ford his 155th win at OSU.
Streaks & Trends
• The Cowboys are 87-6 at home against unranked teams in the Travis Ford era.
• Jeff Newberry is the only OSU player to start every game this year. The senior has started 27 straight dating back to last season.
• The Cowboys are riding a five-game conference losing streak, which is the longest since dropping seven straight Big 12 games in 2013-14. The longest conference losing streak in school history is 10 games spanning the 1959-60 and 1960-61 seasons of Big Eight play.
• OSU has blocked at least one shot in every game this season. The Cowboys rank third in the Big 12 with 4.4 blocks per game.
• Oklahoma State is 62-3 in its last 65 games when holding its opponent under 60 points.
• OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 507 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
