Tavarius Shines in Overtime Win Over Kansas State

Stillwater, Okla. ---- Tavarius Shine scored the first five points in overtime to help lead Oklahoma State to a 58-55 win over Kansas State in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Saturday.
Shine finished with 11 points on three-of-five shooting from behind the arc and four rebounds.
The Cowboys originally thought they won the game in regulation after Jeff Newberry's last-second heave went in, but replay showed it was just seconds after the final buzzer to send the game to ovetime.
Shine gave Oklahoma State an early 57-52 lead in overtime, and a Newberry free throw sealed the win for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys fell behind for the first time midway through the second half, but a Joe Burton three with 7:01 remaining gave Oklahoma State the lead once more at 41-39.
Later in the half Tyree Griffin's free throws gave the Cowboys a 52-50 lead with 1:02 left before the teams went to overtime tied at 52.
As for the first half, Oklahoma State shared the ball early.
A Jeffrey Carroll three off a Griffin assist got Oklahoma State on the board first and the Cowboys jumped out to a quick 7-2 run.
Later in the half, a Shine three gave Oklahoma State a 20-8 lead.
Newberry's three later in the half ended a Kansas State run and extended the Cowboys' lead to 23-16 with 6:02 left in the half.
A Hammonds three off a Newberry assist gave Oklahoma State a 27-22 lead at halftime. The Cowboys finished the half with eight assists on their 10 field goals and did not trail in the half.
Overall, Oklahoma State finished with 12 assists.
The Cowboys took advantage of their second-chance opportunities, as they outscored Kansas State 16-9 in that category.
Justin Edwards led the way for Kansas State with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Alongside Shine, Oklahoma State also had impact performances from Newberry and Hammonds. Newberry finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Hammonds finished with 13 points and six points.
It was Newberry's second-career double-double, and Hammonds' sixth-consecutvie game finishing in double-figuring scoring.
