Kansas Postgame Notes
February 15, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Tyree Griffin earned his 10th start of the season at point guard and posted a career-high 12 assists on the night. That tally is tied for the 19th best performance in school history, and are the most by any Cowboys since John Lucas had 13 against SMU in 2004. It also ties for the most ever by an OSU sophomore (Doug Gottlieb twice, last vs Baylor in 1998).
- The loss to the Jayhawks snapped Oklahoma State's two-game win streak in the series. The Jayhawks now lead the overall series, 111-57, including a 60-12 edge in Lawrence.
- Oklahoma State is the only team to beat Kansas in each of the last four seasons, and Travis Ford is the only current Big 12 head coach to win in Allen Fieldhouse.
- The 94 points allowed to Kansas are a season-high for an OSU opponent.
- The Cowboys are 19-24 all-time in ESPN's Big Monday game, including a 3-7 mark against the Jayhawks.
- Entering tonight's game, the last eight head-to-head meetings between Kansas and Oklahoma State were decided by a total of 16 points in favor of the Cowboys, 582-566.
- The Cowboys had held their last four opponents to 23 points or less in the first half, but the Jayhawks scored 47. Only K-State (49) scored more on the Cowboys in the first half.
- Mitchell Solomon blocked a career-high tying three shots, and has now posted back-to-back games with multiple blocks. The sophomore has at least one block in his last four outings.
- 17-5 run made it a six-point game at 62-56 with 11:13 to go, but that would be as close as the Cowboys would get.
- The Cowboys opened the game on an 8-0 run thanks to 3-pointers from Mitchell Solomon and Jeffrey Carroll, which promtped a KU timeout just 2:01 into the contest.
- OSU hit its first four shots from 3-point and led by as much as nine points with 9:47 left in the first half.
- A 13-0 Kansas run late in the first half turned what was a 28-24 OSU lead into a 37-28 Jayhawk advantage with 2:36 left in the first half.
- Leyton Hammonds snapped his streak of six straight games in double-figures scoring. The junior had been averaging 12.8 points per game over that span.
- The Cowboys started Tyree Griffin, Jeff Newberry, Leyton Hammonds, Jeffrey Carroll and Mitchell Solomon for the fourth straight game.
- Jeff Newberry is the only player to start every game for OSU this season.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 509 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
- The Cowboys have blocked at least one shot in every game this season.
