2024-25: Coming off injuries in the previous year, went 22-5 with a dozen wins over ranked opponents … Was a top-10 seed at nationals for the first time in his career … Placed second at the Big 12 Championships with a 3-1 weekend … Collected four top-10 wins with a top-five win over Little Rock’s Stephen Little … Won 13 of 14 dual matches … Battled back from a quarterfinal loss, beating five ranked wrestlers and placing third at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
2023-24: Battled through injuries for much of the year, but reached his third-consecutive NCAA Championships with a 13-9 record at 197 pounds … Upset Utah Valley’s 14th-ranked Evan Bockman and placed sixth at the Big 12 Championships to clinch the conference’s final allocation … Awarded the No. 27 seed at the NCAA Championships … Scored bonus points in nine of his 13 wins and beat four ranked opponents on the year … Reached the quarterfinals at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational before injury forced him to drop out … Needed just 26 seconds to pin Illinois’ Joseph Braunagel at the Lindenwood Open, setting a new personal best … Became one of 14 Cowboys to receive a third selection to the NWCA Scholar All-American team ... 2022-23: Went 23-10 at 197 pounds with 12 bonus-point wins, which was the second-most among OSU starters … Went 4-1 at the Big 12 Championships to take third-place, highlighted by two wins over NDSU’s No. 11 Owen Pentz … Upset top-ranked Rocky Elam, 5-4, which led the Pokes to a dual win over No. 8 Missouri and earned him Big 12 Wrestler of the Week … Went 2-2 at the NCAA Championships as the No. 15 seed … Compiled four falls, seven major decisions and one technical fall … Recorded his fastest fall of the season in 34 seconds against Keegan Moore to walk-off the first Bedlam dual of the season in dramatic fashion … Had an 11-6 mark in duals and went 12-9 against ranked opponents.
2021-22: Posted a 14-10 record in his first season at heavyweight for the Cowboys … Won the first dual match of his career, scoring a 14-3 major decision against Stanford’s Peter Ming … Collected his first career ranked win in a 5-3 upset over No. 22 A.J. Nevills of SDSU … Defeated OU’s Josh Heindselman in a match that gave OSU the momentum late in the Bedlam dual in Stillwater … Made a run to the Big 12 finals as the seventh seed that saw him avenge three losses to higher-seeded opponents from earlier in the season … Made his first appearance at the NCAA Championships where he was the No. 19 seed … Lost his first match to No. 14 Luke Luffman of Illinois before defeating Heindselman again in consolations … Recorded seven bonus-point victories with two falls, three major decisions and two technical falls … Received Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors for his work in the classroom.
2020-21: Started his Oklahoma State career 8-0 at 197 pounds, competing in extra matches as a true freshman … Picked up four technical falls in that stretch, three of them coming in the first period … Defeated Northern Iowa’s Tyrell Gordon, 3-1, who started multiple duals for the Panthers at 197 pounds … Majored Missouri’s Jack Flynn, 19-5, in the first round of the Cowboy Challenge Tournament before suffering an injury against No. 12 Stephen Buchanan of Wyoming in the semifinals for his only loss of the season.
High School: Posted a 155-12 career record at Tuttle High School while being coached by his father, Matt Surber … Three-time Oklahoma state champion … Was named an OSSAA Outstanding Wrestler at the state tournament in 2020 … Earned an All-State selection in 2020 to go along with All-American selections from 2018 and 2019 … Was first team all-city honoree three times during high school career … Named a 2019 Fargo All-American as well as a UWW Cadet All-American the year prior … Won the Kansas City Stampede tournament at 138 pounds in 2017 … Wrestled with fellow OSU signee Dustin Plott at Tuttle … Also competed in football … Was a member of the National Honor Society.
