Cowboy Tennis Downs BYU in Conference Opener

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated BYU, 4-3, for its fourth straight victory on Thursday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The win improves the Cowboys to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in the Big 12, while the loss drops the Cougars to 11-3 and 0-1 in the league.
After dropping the opening set, Derek Pham won back-to-back sets, clinching the victory for the Cowboys. The win is Pham's seventh in a row to go along with his team-leading nine wins.
OSU dropped the opening point of the match in doubles action, as BYU's No. 81 Wally Thayne and Zach Fuchs took down No. 48 Alessio Basile and Nicolas Kobelt, 6-3, and Alex Edmonston and Hardy Owen bested Isaac Becroft and Matei Onorfrei, 6-3.
OSU's No. 67 Becroft quickly knotted the match after a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Thayne on court one. Ian Bracks gave the Cowboys the lead for the first time after he defeated David Duong, 6-0, 6-3, on court five.
BYU pulled the match back even after TJ Wells took down Thomas Gadecki, 6-3, 6-3.
The Cowboys and the Cougars split courts two and four with OSU's Basile defeating Fuchs, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, and BYU's Chodur besting Kobelt, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, to keep the match even going to the final court.
OSU continues its four-match homestand against Utah on Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m.
