Cowboy Tennis Defeats Rice, Notches Fifth-Straight Win

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated Rice, 5-2, on Tuesday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center to extend its winning streak.Â

The victory improves OSU to 7-8 and was its fifth win in a row, while the loss drops Rice to 10-7.Â

After dropping the first set, OSU's Nicolas Kobelt rallied to win back-to-back sets to halt the Owls' comeback, defeating Tommy Czaplinski, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, and clinching the match.Â

To open the match, the Cowboys nabbed the doubles point after a 6-3 win from Isaac Becroft and Finn Hopfe and a 6-4 win from No. 58 Alessio Basile and Kobelt. OSU is 5-0 this season when taking the match's opening point. Â

Soon after, OSU's Derek Pham tallied his eighth-straight win in the contest, besting Santiago Navarro, 6-1, 6-3. Pham leads the Cowboys in wins with 10.Â
