STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the year with a 97-59 victory on Wednesday night in front of 2,096 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
No. 22 OSU raced out to a 12-2 lead four minutes into the contest behind three 3-pointers from Haleigh Timmer. However, the Lions would use a quick 8-0 over a 90-second stretch to cut the margin to 16-13 with three minutes to go in the period. They would go on to tie the score at 18 apiece a minute later on a 3-pointer.
The Cowgirls would take a 22-18 lead into the second quarter.
In the second, OSU got a 3-pointer from Lena Girardi with less than five minutes to go to push the advantage to double figures at 36-24. Girardi would add another trey at the two-miunute mark to extend the margin to 15.
Timmer drilled back-to-back treys, including one as time expired, to make it a 15-0 run and send OSU into the break with a 45-24 lead. She would finish the half with 17 points behind a 5-of-6 effort from beyond the arc, while OSU would hold the Lions to six points in the quarter.
In the third, Timmer would drill her sixth trey and OSU would score 12 of the first 16 in the frame to build a 57-28 lead.
The Cowgirls led, 74-39, through the first 30 minutes.
Timmer would lead the Cowgirls with 22 points on a 7-of-8 shooting effort, including a 6-of-7 mark from beyond the arc.
All-American Stailee Heard finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Amari Whiting, Micah Gray and Achol Akot each finished with 13 points.
