Cowgirl Golf to tee off 2024-25 campaign at Carmel Cup
August 28, 2024 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's women's golf team is set to tee off its 2024-25 season on Friday at the Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, Calif.
The tournament will be held at historic and iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links. The par-72, 6,156-yard layout holds some of the most serene and thrilling sights that the sport can offer. Last season, the Cowgirls finished sixth in the season-opening event.
The format is a 54-hole stroke play event featuring an 18-hole round each day. Each of the eight teams will bring six golfers and the top five scores will count towards the day's total score each day.
Coverage
Live scoring for the Carmel Cup (Aug. 30-Sep. 1) will be provided at: https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournament-leaderboard/233359/scoring/team. For daily round-by-round coverage, follow along on okstate.com.
Meet the Field (8)
Arkansas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt
Experienced Pokes
The team is one of the youngest in recent memory and will look to its leaders, Grace Kilcrease, a junior newcomer from Tulsa, and Thitaporn Saithip.
Kilcrease is coming off a 34th-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Championship, the best individual finish for a Tulsa golfer since 2002. Kilcrease added to her accolades with an AAC All-Conference first-team selection.
Saithip is one of three upperclassmen on the roster and will look to lead with two prior years competing at Pebble Beach. The junior finished all three rounds in the 70s last year.
Young and Ready
The expanded lineup features six Cowgirls and the youngest team to start a season since the 2020-21 campaign.
Four of the six golfers are underclassmen. Leading that youthful group is Ellie Bushnell, coming off a successful freshman season where she started every event for the Pokes, becoming the first freshman since 2017-18 to do so. The California native will head back to her home state to begin her fall campaign.
Sammie Miller, another California native, will be making her second career start. The sophomore participated in four tournaments in 2023-24, competing as an individual for three of those starts.
A pair of freshmen, Lucy Darr and Summer Lee, will be making their Cowgirl debuts this weekend.
Darr, a Stillwater native, has plenty of experience despite her age. Just this summer, Darr competed at the 75th U.S. Girls' Junior and the 2024 U.S. Women's Amateur in Tulsa at Southern Hills Country Club. She posted a top 20 finish during stroke play, carding five birdies over the two-round competition in Tulsa.
Lee also embarks on her collegiate career, but, like Darr, has experience of her own. She competed in the 2023 and 2024 Texas Women's Open, as well as being ranked as high as 64 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings.
