Three Indoor School Records Fall On First Day Of Multi-Meet Weekend
February 12, 2022 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State men's and women's track and field teams rewrote the program record book Friday as they traveled to Seattle and Lubbock, Texas, for the first day of the Husky Classic and Texas Tech Shootout.
In the Husky Classic, Gabby Hentemann kicked off the record-setting run when she shattered the 5,000 Meter school record with a time of 15:45.44. The previous record had been held by Jackie Goodman since 1989 and Hentemann's time surpassed it by over seven seconds overall.
In the race immediately following the women's 5,000 Meters, Alex Maier also took down the men's 5,000 Meter program record with a blistering time of 13:25.79, which toppled Cowboy great Shadrack Kipchirchir's record by almost 13 seconds. It was Maier's second record-topping performance of the season after he broke the 3,000 Meter school record just two weeks ago at the Razorback Invitational.
However, his two-week-old record would not stand for long as Ryan Schoppe continued the record-breaking streak by eclipsing Maier's 3,000 Meter mark by .13 seconds with a time of 7:46.48. Schoppe and Maier currently sit tenth and 11th in the country in the 3,000 Meters with Maier also currently eighth in the 5,000 Meter national list.
The women's DMR team became just the third this season to break the 11-minute mark with a time of 10:59.88. In the process, the team of Gabija Galvydyte, Christina Ollison, Sivan Auerbach and Taylor Roe moved up to fourth on the OSU all-time list in the event. They currently sit third in the nation after entering the event sixth overall.
Meanwhile, several Cowboys and Cowgirls set new personal bests Friday at the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock.
Hannah Bradford continues to move her way up the Cowgirl weight throw leaderboard. Bradford set a new PR of 19.21 meters, which replaced her own throw for third-longest in program history.
In the men's weight throw, Zac Robbins blew away his previous personal-best throw of 17.99 with a new PR distance of 18.99 meters. His throw moved him past teammate Sam Mason on OSU's all-time list, two weeks after Mason did the same at the Razorback Invitational. Mason also set a new personal best with a throw of 18.42 meters in the event.
Freshman Koryee Wyatt ran his first collegiate 60 Meter dash and in the process, posted a time of 6.80 seconds in the prelims which puts him fifth on the school's all-time list.
In the women's 60m hurdles, Maddie Meiner's new personal-best time of 8.78 seconds moves her up to fourth on the program's all-time list.
Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Texas Tech Shootout and Husky Classic. Additionally, Fouad Messaoudi and Juan Diego-Castro will be competing in Boston in the David Hemery Valentine Invite.
