Â
The Matchup
Oklahoma State will meet Clemson for the eighth time on Saturday in a series that dates back to 1982. The Cowgirls lead the series 5-2, including a 7-2 win in the most recent meeting in 1991. OSU also leads the all-time series against SMU, 8-7, after a win in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament last season, while the Cowgirls are 16-6 all-time against Arkansas.
Â
History in 2024
Oklahoma State put together one of the most dominant seasons in program history in 2024. The Cowgirls finished 29-1 while breaking program records for win percentage (.967) and win streak (29). They also captured their first-ever ITA Indoor National Championship, third Big 12 Tournament title and fourth Big 12 regular season championship. Sixteen of OSU's 29 wins came against opponents ranked in the top 30, including seven against teams in the top 10 at the time of the match, marking another program record. Individually, the Cowgirls boasted three All-America selections, the Big 12 Player of the Year (Ange Oby Kajuru), Big 12 Newcomer of the Year (Anastasiya Komar), Big 12 Coach of the Year (Chris Young) and nine All-Big 12 selections.
Â
The Title Defense
ITA Kickoff Weekend serves as the first step for Oklahoma State as it looks to defend its ITA Indoor National Championship in 2025. Last season, the Cowgirls outlasted No. 12 UCLA in a thriller in Des Moines, Iowa, before beating Old Dominion to advance through ITA Kickoff Weekend. This year, OSU is hosting the event at the Greenwood Tennis Center for the second time in the last three seasons and will look to advance to the championship site in back-to-back season for the first time since 2016-17.
Â
New Faces
Oklahoma State's new additions made an impact in its three wins to open the season. The five new arrivals went 9-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles across the three matches, highlighted by three singles wins from Georgia transfer Gracie Epps and three doubles wins from freshman Rose Marie Nijkamp, pairing with Anastasiya Komar. Third-year Cowgirl Amber Hochstatter also earned her first singles and doubles wins at OSU against Wyoming and Southeast Missouri State.
Â
Taking Care of Business
Not only did OSU open the season with three straight sweeps for the first time since 2017, but it also extended its program-record win streak in regular season matches to 29. Additionally, the Cowgirls' strong start extended win streaks in regular season home matches (15), against unranked non-conference opponents (15) and in non-conference matches (14).
