EUGENE, Ore. – Oklahoma State track & field kicks off action at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., with eight Cowboys and eight Cowgirls competing across seven different events this weekend.
Competition for OSU begins Wednesday with three Cowboys and the 4x400 Meter Relay squad running in their respective semifinal rounds and three more racing in the 10,000 Meter Final on opening night. The men's 4x400 Meter Relay of Blake Wynne, Caio Almeida, DJ McArthur and Jordon Smith became the first quartet to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event this century with their school-record time of 3:05.23 at the NCAA West Prelims two weeks ago.
The Cowgirls open up Thursday with semifinals for middle-distance superstars Billah Jepkirui and Gabija Galvydyte in the 1,500 and 800 Meters, respectively. The pair each made the finals in their events last year and earned first team All-America honors indoors this season. Gabby Hentemann, Molly Born and Taylor Roe conclude action Thursday in the 10,000 Meter Final. OSU was the only school this season to qualify three men and three women each in the same distance event.
Friday's schedule opens with the first three events of the Women's Heptathlon, where Bailey Golden and Olivija Vaitaityte have qualified for the NCAA Championships for the third time in their careers. Golden owns the school record in the event with her score of 5,887 points at the Jim Click Shootout earlier this season and is making her third straight appearance at the outdoor championships. Vaitaityte qualified for the 2022 outdoor and 2024 indoor championships and holds No. 2 mark in program history. OSU also joined Oregon and Texas A&M as the only three schools to qualify multiple Heptathletes to the national championships this season.
The rest of the Friday slate includes any Cowboys that advance from Wednesday's semifinal rounds, in addition to Alex Maier, who will be doubling back from the 10K to join Brian Musau in the men's 5,000 Meter Final. Entering this weekend, Musau owns the top time in the NCAA with his school-record mark of 13:13.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
On Saturday, Winny Bii is making her outdoor championship debut in the Triple Jump after earning first team All-America honors indoors. The final three events of the Heptathlon will also be contested along with any Cowgirls that advance from Thursday's semifinals.
Rounding out the weekend will be Cowgirl legend Taylor Roe, who is also doubling in the 5K and 10K. The Cowgirl standout owns the school record in the event and will be looking to add yet another All-America honor to her laundry list of accomplishments in the orange and black.
The entirety of the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be broadcast live on ESPN2, with field events having their own dedicated streams on ESPN+. Live results for the meet can be found here.
