Cowgirls Searching For League-Best 11th Big 12 Title
April 19, 2023 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 23 Oklahoma State women's golf is set to open postseason play at the Big 12 Championships in Dallas, Texas at Dallas Athletic Club, beginning Friday morning. All nine conference teams are scheduled to compete for 54 holes at the par-72, 6,264-yard layout.
OSU leads the Big 12 with 10 conference titles, three more than second-place Texas, and will be looking to add to that total this weekend. The Cowgirls have continued their strong presence atop the league as of late, as Lianna Bailey edged out the field by one stroke to win the individual title last season, and the team captured the conference crown in record-breaking fashion in 2021.
The Cowgirls have compiled a solid 16-6-2 record against league foes and notched wins over both top-seeded Texas and second-seeded Baylor in their regular season finale at Big 12 Match Play.
After pacing the team with a 6-1-1 record at Big 12 Match Play, Maddison Hinson-Tolchard once again leads the Cowgirl lineup in Dallas. Currently ranked No. 12 in the nation by GolfStat, Hinson-Tolchard has put together a stellar junior campaign, leading the team in scoring average, rounds in the 60's and par-or-better rounds. Additionally, all 23 of her rounds played this season have qualified towards the team's overall score.
The reigning Big 12 Player of the Year is also chasing a number of program records as well, as her 70.78 stroke average is tied for second-best ever by a Cowgirl in a season. Hinson-Tolchard has also posted 48 par-or-better rounds throughout her career, just one shy of the program record set by Kenzie Neisen.
Thitaporn Saithip will get her first crack at collegiate postseason play this weekend after compiling a 72.41 stroke average in the regular season, second-best on the squad.
Making her seventh start of the season, the freshman has been a consistent piece for the Cowgirls and has played eight rounds in a row in which her score counted towards the team score.
Clemence Martin will also be making her postseason debut after missing last year's action with an injury. The junior is third among the Cowgirls with a stroke average of 72.82 and has shot four rounds in the 60's in just 17 rounds played.
Han-Hsuan Yu returns to the Big 12 Championships following a tied for third finish in last year's rendition. She brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played 114 rounds in her career along with 11 top-10 outings.
Yu has played well throughout the month of April, ending tied for 13th at The Bruzzy and boasting a 5-3 record at Big 12 Match Play.
Rina Tatematsu rounds out the Cowgirl lineup for her ninth start of the season. The junior owns a 73.00 stroke average and has shot par-or-better in 10 of her 21 rounds played.
The tournament is scheduled to tee off on hole No. 1 at 8 a.m. CT on Friday for 18 holes of play.
