STILLWATER – The 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team was announced Thursday, as nine Oklahoma State wrestlers earned first-team selections and one garnered second-team honors to combine for 10 total spots on the team.
Â
The 10 total selections and nine first-team honorees are the most an Oklahoma State team has recorded since the beginning of the Big 12 Conference in 1996-97.
Â
OSU's Bennett Sherrer was one of nine players in the league honored with a 4.00 grade point average. It is the first Academic All-Big 12 honor for Sherrer who graduated in December with a B.S. in Sports Management and is now working on a Master of Business Administration.
Â
Several Cowboys received recognition for multiple times in their careers, including Dusty Hone and Austin Harris were named to the first team for a third-straight season. Daton Fix collected first-team honors for the first time in his career to go with two appearances on the second team in 2019 and 2021. The lone Cowboy on the second team, Travis Wittlake earned the second honor of his career after being a part of the second team in 2020, as well. Â
OSU's first-time honorees this year include first-team selections Trevor Mastrogiovanni, Dustin Plott, Joey Sanchez, Gavin Stika and Luke Surber.
Â
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Â
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
