No. 14 Oklahoma State Falls To No. 18 Columbia In First Round Of ITA Kickoff

KNOXVILLE - The No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys dropped their first match of the season to No. 18 Columbia in the opening match of the ITA Kickoff on Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.
Saturday afternoon began with doubles, where the Cowboys would drop two of the three matches. Maxim Tybar and Mathieu Scaglia lost the first match of the day to Jason Lui and Adam Ambrozy, 6-2. No. 19 Emile Hudd and Luke Hammond picked up the lone doubles win of the day for the Cowboys by defeating Alex Kotzen and Rian Pandole, 6-4. No. 1 Matej Vocel and Dominik Kellovsky would fall in a ranked matchup against No. 3 Jack Lin and Jackie Tang, 6-4, to give Columbia the lone doubles point.
The singles points were only played out until Columbia reached four points. No. 79 Alex Kotzen would take down Luke Hammond in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. No. 6 Jack Lin defeated No. 41 Vocel, 6-4, 6-1, to claim the third point of the match. The match was decided by Austen Huang on court six, as he defeated Brady Draheim, 7-5, 6-4, to complete the sweep for No. 18 Columbia.
This is the first loss of the season for the Cowboys as they now move to 3-1 on the year. This was the first match of the season for Columbia, to give them a 1-0 record on the season with an opportunity to compete in the championship match on Sunday.
The Cowboys will now compete in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff against the loser of No. 16 Tennessee and No. 25 Arizona State. The consolation match will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Tennessee and ASU will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
