Cowboy Tennis Takes Down First Ranked Opponent Of The Year At ITA Kickoff

KNOXVILLE - The No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys competed in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff in Knoxville, Tenn. on Sunday and defeated No. 25 Arizona State, 4-3.
After losing its first-round match against No. 18 Columbia on Saturday, the Cowboys faced off against the No. 25 Arizona State Sun Devils in consolation play. The day began with doubles where Brady Draheimand DominikKellovskydefeated Tom LeBlanc and MakeyRakotomalala, 6-2. Kellovsky's regular partner, MatejVocel, was sick and did not compete on Sunday.
Arizona State would take the next two doubles matches to win the doubles point over the Cowboys. Christian Lerbyand George Stoupedefeated Maxim Tybarand Etienne Donneton court three, 6-4. The doubles point was clinched by No. 27 Tim Ruehland Andrea Bolladefeating No. 19 Emile Huddand Luke Hammond, 7-6(5).
Singles began with another Sun Devil win, as George Stoupedefeated Maxim Tybar, 6-4, 6-2. The first OSU point of the day came via the freshman Cowboy, Etienne Donnet, as he defeated Tom LeBlanc, 6-2, 6-2. No. 91 DominikKellovsky, who moved up to court one today in singles, defeated No. 99 MakeyRakotomalala, 6-4, 6-2, to tie the match up, 2-2.
The first Cowboy lead of the day came when Oscar Moraing, another freshman, defeated William Kirkman, 6-3, 7-5 on court six. ASU would tie the match up at three points a piece when Christian Lerbydefeated Luke Hammond, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. The match was decided in a three-set thriller between No. 87 Emile Huddand Andrea Bollaas Huddwon it, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.
This win moves the Cowboys to 4-1 on the season and gives them their first win over a ranked opponent this year. Arizona State, who was ranked No. 25 in the country going into the ITA Kickoff, now falls to 1-3 on the year with its last two losses coming in this tournament.
The Cowboys will now travel to Oxford, Miss. to take on Ole Miss on Jan. 31. That weekend, they will then travel to Memphis, Tenn. to face off against the Memphis Tigers on Feb. 2.
