Cowgirl Golf Opens Roberson Era With Trinity Forest Invite Victory

DALLAS – The Oklahoma State women's golf team began the 2019 season and the Greg Robertson era by dominating the Trinity Forest Invitational, carding a (+2) 291-282-293 to win the event in record-breaking fashion.
The Cowgirls shot 866 for the tournament, which broke the previous Trinity Forest Invitational record by six strokes. The victory marks the 10th time in school history that the Cowgirls have won their season opening tournament. It is also the 94th team title in school history.
By winning the Trinity Forest Invitational, Robertson joins former OSU women's golf coach and current men's golf coach Alan Bratton as the only Cowgirl head coaches to win their debut tournament. This is Robertson's 28th victory as a head coach after winning 27 tournaments in six seasons at Kent State.
Windy conditions and fast greens tested the Cowgirls in the afternoon, OSU finished the event six strokes ahead of Texas Tech. Red Raider junior Sofia Garcia claimed the individual title after shooting a final round 64, which set a new women's amateur course record.
The freshman duo of Isabella Fierro and Hailey Jones led the Cowgirls, both finishing in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard. Fierro finished the tournament in fourth place after carding both rounds yesterday under par and playing even in today's round finishing 3-under par for the tournament. Jones placed seventh on the leaderboard after shooting a 1-over 71-74-72 thanks in large part due to 10 birdies, including three in the front nine today.
Sophomore Lianna Bailey cupped 14 birdies throughout the tournament, the second most of any player. Bailey was joined in 11th place by senior Michelle Forsland shooting 4-over for the tournament. Forsland started the day strong, birdieing her first two holes of the day.
Han-Hsuan Yu played the invitational as an individual, but finished tied for eighth place on the leaderboard after shooting an even 72 on the day.
The Cowgirls are back in action Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in the Windy City Classic in Chicago.
