Johansson Vaults Cowgirl Golf Into Third With 18 To Play At Regional

SHOAL CREEK, Ala. – On Thursday, Maddie McCrary put the Oklahoma State women's golf team on her back. On Friday, it was Linnea Johansson's turn. The junior fired a 1-under par 71 that vaulted both her and the Cowgirls into third place with 18 holes to play in the NCAA Shoal Creek Regional.
After Saturday's final round the top six teams and the top three individuals not associated with one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, which will be played on May 20-25 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
The No. 9 Cowgirls began the day on fire after a combined eight birdies through the first four holes. Conditions later stiffened on the course, but OSU finished the day eight strokes behind the leaders, No. 8 Northwester, but 18 strokes better than seventh-place Michigan.
Johansson posted four birdies over the opening six holes and finds herself in contention for the individual title with 18 holes to play. She's just a stroke behind Matilda Castren of Florida State and Northwestern's Kacie Komoto.
McCrary is also among the top 10 after a second-round 5-over 77. After an even par opening round, the sophomore is tied for eighth place at 5-over par.
Two-time Big 12 individual champion, Kenzie Neisen, jumped 23 spots on the leaderboard thanks to a 2-over 74 on Friday. The sophomore is now tied for 22nd at 8-over.
Emma Broze and Chih-Min Chen are both tied for 30th place heading into Saturday's final round. Broze carded a 3-over 75, while Chen posted a 6-over 78.
