Stillwater, Okla. ---- Jeff Newberry tied his career high with 23 points in a 69-48 win against TCU to open up Big 12 play in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Saturday.
Newberry also finished with eight rebounds.
Oklahoma State used a quick 6-0 run to start the second half to pull away from the Horned Frogs, and a Jeffrey Carroll three a few possessions later gave Oklahoma State a 36-25 lead.
The first half shooting woes continued into the second half for the Horned Frogs, as they were eight-of-31 from the field eight minutes in after halftime.
Later in the half, a Newberry three off a Tyree Griffin assist capped off a 10-0 Cowboys run and gave them a 52-25 lead with 6:53 remaining.
A Newberry jumper a minute later gave the Oklahoma a 56-36 lead.
As for the first half, the Cowboys started hot on both ends of the court, holding TCU to three-of-11 shooting from the field to help spark an early 7-0 run to take a 16-8 lead with 11:50 remaining in the half.
A Leyton Hammonds layup with 7:06 left gave the Cowboys their biggest lead of the half at 20-10.
TCU would capitalize on free throws the final four minutes of the game, but Oklahoma State held a 26-24 lead at halftime.
Second chance points were the difference in the first half as the Cowboys outscored the Horned Frogs 10-4 in that category.
Steals and blocks played a major factor in the game from the first to the final whistle, as Oklahoma State finished with 10 steals and eight blocks compared to TCU's one steal and zero blocks.
The Cowboys also outscored TCU 9-2 in fast break points.
Malique Trent led the way for the Horned Frogs. He finished with 11 points points.
Alongside Newberry, Oklahoma State also had solid performances from Carroll, Jawun Evans and Hammonds. Carroll finished with 10 points and five rebounds, Evans finished with 13 points and Hammonds finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
