Women's Golf Flattered By Preseason Rankings, But Only Results Matter

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's golf coach Courtney Jones was quick to point out that preseason rankings are great and all, but it only matters where you finish at the end of the season.
That being said, it's never a bad thing to have one of the nation's youngest teams and still be recognized by Golfweek as the country's No. 9 ranked squad.
"We had three girls tie atop the standings during our qualification process, and that's exactly what we like to see," Jones said. "The competition has been outstanding, and we're very excited to get things started."
Jones' charges will be put to the test early against a very talented field at the season opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The nation's No. 1 team, Stanford, along with eight other top 30 squads, will take to the University of New Mexico's University Course.
Freshman Chih-Min Chen, who arrived in Stillwater with a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 62, will join a Cowgirl squad of talented youngsters. Junior Linnea Johansson, who recently played in the Ladies European Tour stop in Helsingborg, Sweden, along with sophomores Maddie McCrary, Kenzie Neisen and Alexis Sadeghy will represent the black and orange in New Mexico.
