Cowgirl Golf Opens Fall With Solid Rounds In New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – An afternoon surge from Chih-Min Chen and solid outings from Kenzie Neisen and Linnea Johansson have the Oklahoma State women's golf team in fifth place after 36 holes at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico (292-293 – 585).

The Cowgirls entered Monday's season opener with a No. 9 ranking on the Golfweek national preseason poll, and had no trouble on the par-5s of the 6,315-yard par-73 course. As a team, OSU was 15-under on par-5 holes – six strokes better than the next best team.

Chen, who arrived at OSU with a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 62, posted an eagle on the 480-yard par-5 10^th hole, as well birdies on 14 and 15 to finish even for the second round. The freshman posted rounds of 72-72 – 146 (E) and sits in a tie for 23^rd heading into Tuesday's final round.

Neisen, the Big 12 individual champion as a freshman last season, opened the McGuire Invite with birdies on the opening two holes, and finished the matinee round at 2-under, 71. The sophomore was 1-over in the second round and is in a tie for 14^th place.

Johansson carded a pair of birdies on the front and back nine in her second round, and also finds herself tied for 14^th after rounds of 72-73 – 145 (-1).

Maddie McCrary (75-74 – 149) and Alexis Sadeghy (79-76 – 155) will enter the final round in 38^th and 66^th place, respectively.
The third and final round of the McGuire Invite is slated to begin Tuesday morning.
