Cowboy Tennis Defeats UNLV, 4-2

LA JOLLA, Calif. - No. 37 Oklahoma State men's tennis team improved to 9-3 on the season with a 4-2 victory over the UNLV Rebels on Thursday at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
The Cowboys put together a strong start in doubles with the 17th-ranked duo of Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe blanking the Matias/Pume duo, 6-0, at the No. 1-spot. Their performance was followed by a 6-3 win on court three from Lukas Finzelberg and Jurence Mendoza over the Gage-Brown/Cozbinov tandem.
In singles, the Pokes won three matches to tally another team win.
Finishing first was Nicolai Ferrigno on court five, who gave up only three games en route to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ruben Alberts.
Freshman Jurence Mendoza won in similar fashion, closing out his match on court six with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Ozzy Abraham.
All four of the remaining courts were tightly contested, as each of the first sets were decided in a tiebreaker and each court went to a third set.
Cowboys Lucas Gerch and Jakob Sude fell on courts two and one, respectively.
Arjun Kadhe, ranked No. 113 in singles, sealed the win for the Pokes, outscoring his opponent 19 games to 17 with a 7-6(4), 6-7(2), 6-4 victory on court three. It was the sophomore's third time this season to clinch a win for the Cowboys.
Play on court four was not finished.
The match against Villanova will be rescheduled. The time and date is to be determined.
The Cowboys continue the weekend, competing at the Pacific Coasts Men's Doubles Championship, which runs until March 8.
