Cowgirls One Stroke Back At Windy City

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team finished the first day of action at the Windy City Collegiate Championship on Monday in second place with a 5-under-par 563 total and just one shot out of first at Northmoor Country Club.
The Cowgirls grabbed the first-round lead after opening with a 281 at the par-71, 6,108-yard layout. Southern California used a 278 during its second round to move into the top spot and one shot clear of OSU, which posted a 282 during its afternoon round.
USC's Kyung Kim signed for scores of 69 and 68 to stand at 137 and one shot clear of OSU sophomore Julie Yang.
Yang posted a pair of 69s to finish at 4-under 138 for the day and alone in second place. During her first round, she overcame a double bogey on her fifth hole with consecutive birdies on the next two holes before making the turn at even-par 36. Yang turned in a clean inward nine with seven pars and a pair of birdies for her 2-under score.
During her afternoon round, Yang parred her first eight holes before a birdie at the ninth gave her a 1-under 35 total. Birdies on three of the first four holes countered a pair of bogeys for an inward nine of 1-under 34.
Senior Lauren Falley came in a stroke behind Yang after carding rounds of 70 and 69 to finish at 139 and tied for third place.
Freshman Casie Cathrea joined her teammates in the top 10, finishing the day tied for eight place at even-par 142 with scores of 69 and 73.
Senior Amy Ruengmateekhun came in tied for 20th place at 144 after following a 73 with a 71.
Senior Jayde Panos rounded out the lineup with scores of 74 and 76 giving her a 150 total and tying her for 47th place.
The Cowgirls will close out the event tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with USC and Arizona.
