Palm Springs, Calif. - The Oklahoma State softball team defeated No. 17 Stanford 4-1 Friday night at the Mary Nutter Classic.
Senior right-hander Kat Espinosa (2-2) dominated the circle for Oklahoma State. She went seven innings, allowing one run on four hits, no walks and striking out six.
The Cowgirls (7-5) broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. OSU plated all four of its runs in the inning and cruised to the victory.
Oklahoma State scored its first two runs on a Stanford throwing error. Freshman Shianne Hughes and senior Samantha Chrisman scored on the miscue.
Freshman Tiffany Mikkelson added another run for OSU with an RBI single. Mikkelson's base hit to center plated Tamara Brown.
The final run for the Pokes came on a base hit by Erika Campbell. Campbell, who was 2-for-3 in the game, allowed Amy Graham to score and made it 4-0.
Stanford mounted a rally in the sixth inning but was quickly stop by the Cowgirls. The Cardinal managed just a run in the game and dropped to 11-3 on the season.
The Cowgirls return to the diamond tomorrow to wrap up play at the 2013 Mary Nutter Classic. OSU will take on No. 13 UCLA at 4:30 p.m. CT and Long Beach State at 9:30 p.m.
