Cowgirls Continue Play at ITA Regionals

NORMAN, Okla. -
The Oklahoma State women's tennis team began singles main draw action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships on Saturday in Norman, Okla., with two Cowgirls reaching the round of 16.
Senior Kanyapat Narattana was victorious in her first match of the day, defeating Aspen Cervin of Saint Louis, 6-4, 6-0. Narattana would knock off Wichita State's Montse Blaso-Fernandez, 6-1, 6-0, in her second round match to advance to the round of 16 where she will face No. 43 Yang Pang of Arkansas on Sunday morning.
Freshman Megan McCray also advanced to the round of 16 on Saturday with two big wins in the first and second rounds. McCray began the day with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Tulsa's Isaura Enrique. In the round of 32, the Cowgirl freshman defeated Emma Devine of Oklahoma, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Cowgirl junior Karyn Guttormsen won her first round match over Bradley's Adele Henke, 7-5, 6-3, but would suffer a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Yelena Nemchen of Tulsa in the round of 32. Freshman Carla Tur Mari downed Nebraska's Katerina Matysova in two sets before falling to No. 12 Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State in the second round.
After falling in her first match of the day against No. 65 Ruth Seaborne, Cowgirl sophomore Maria Alvarez defeated Sarah McClean of Arkansas, 6-5, 6-4, in the consolation bracket.
Narattana and McCray will look to keep rolling on Sunday morning, with competition in the round of 16 scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
