IRVING, Texas - Oklahoma State's Kelsey Vines has been named the Big 12 Women's Golf Player and Newcomer of the Year it was announced today by the league office. With her selection, she becomes just the second player in league history to garner both awards, joining former Cowgirl standout Caroline Hedwall.
A native of St. George, Utah, Vines has posted six top 10s, including a pair of victories, in 10 starts during her first season in Stillwater. Vines tied for first at the Windy City Collegiate Championship last fall before logging her second win as a Cowgirl this spring at the BYU at Entrada Classic.
A transfer from BYU, Vines closed out the regular season ranked 24th nationally after finishing in a tie for eighth at the Big 12 Championship.
Vines' selection marks the eighth time a Cowgirl has been named the Big 12's top player and the eighth time an OSU player has been named the newcomer of the year in the 16-year history of the league.
Joining Vines on the all-conference team was Jayde Panos. The sophomore has posted five top 10s on the year, including a runner-up showing at the Dale McNamara Invitational. The Perth, Australia native has also finished fifth in her last two starts, including last weekend's Big 12 Championship.
The Player and Newcomer of the Year are automatically selected as the highest ranked individual from the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings following the league championship. The all-conference team is identified using the top 10 highest-ranked golfers according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings following the Big 12 Championship.
