CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Oklahoma State's Kelsey Vines was recognized as a second-team All-American on Friday by the National Golf Coaches Association. The honor was announced as part of the NGCA's Division I Awards Banquet held in Nashville, Tenn.
The achievement adds to an impressive first season in Stillwater for Vines, who transferred to OSU from BYU prior to the 2011-12 campaign. Earlier this month, the junior became just the second player in Big 12 history to be named the league's player and newcomer of the year, joining former Cowgirl standout Caroline Hedwall.
Vines competed in 12 events this season, earning seven top 10s, including a pair of victories. The St. George, Utah native tied for first at the Windy City Collegiate Championship last fall while leading the Cowgirls to the second of their two team wins on the year.
She added her second victory of the season this spring with a three-shot triumph at the BYU at Entrada Classic. Among her top 10s was a third-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Invitational and a tie for eighth at the Big 12 Championship. Additionally, she tied for seventh at the NCAA East Regional to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Championship this past week in Franklin, Tenn.
Vines entered this week's event ranked 25th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Ranking and is the first Cowgirl to earn All-America honors since Hedwall was named a first-team selection in 2010.
