STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team dominated in its home opener, as it defeated Creighton, 6-1, on Sunday at the DeBois Tennis Complex.
The Cowboys opened the day with a sweep of the doubles matches to take the first point of the dual. Senior Eric West and freshman Chris Haworth picked up the first victory at the No. 2 spot, winning 8-2 against Ryan Norman and Sean Mathison, handing the duo just its second loss of the year.
Sophomore Rifat Biktyakov and senior Vlad Bondarenko teamed up to score an 8-6 victory at No. 1, while sophomore Brandon Champagne and junior Trevor Horstmann won, 8-6, at No. 3.
West picked up the first singles victory for OSU after dominating Norman, 6-0, 6-0, bringing his record to 10-1 on the year. Haworth also picked up his 10th win of the season after defeating Kyle Obermeier, 6-2, 6-2, which sealed the win for OSU.
Biktyakov earned the Cowboys' second singles victory when he defeated J.T. Christian 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot. Bondarenko beat Billy Paluch, 6-2, 6-2, at No .1, while Horstmann earned a 6-2, 6-1, victory against Sean Mathison at No. 5.
The Cowboys improved to 7-7 on the year, while the Bluejays fell to 8-4. OSU will return to action when it opens conference play on Friday, March 30, at Texas A&M at 6 p.m.
