TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team shut out Oral Roberts on Tuesday night, defeating the Golden Eagles 7-0 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
The Cowboys (2-0) faced a depleted ORU squad, who only had four players compete in the match due to injuries.
OSU began the match by taking the doubles point with the No. 56 pairing of Rifat Biktyakov and Vlad Bondarenko defeating Alvaro Gutierrez and Oscar Witzand, 8-3 in No. 1 doubles. Eric West and Trevor Horstmann beat Matthew Prevost and Nathaniel Avery, 8-2 at No. 2.
In singles competition, No. 60 Bondarenko beat Gutierrez in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, while No. 89 Biktyakov got his first victory of the season, defeating Witzand, 6-1, 6-2.
Chris Haworth, ranked No. 77, and Horstmann each shut out their opponents, with Haworth picking up a victory against Avery and Horstmann defeating Prevost.
“I thought the guys came out and played well today,” coach James Wadley said. “We got the doubles point and won all of our singles matches. (ORU) only had four guys because of injury and sickness. I'm really proud of the guys for winning all of our matches.”
