Cowboy Netters Suffer First Loss of the Year

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team lost for the first time in 2012 at the hands of No. 63 San Diego State on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The Cowboys (3-1) got another win from the No. 56 doubles tandem of Rifat Biktyakov and Vlad Bondarenko, 8-6, bringing the pair's record to 4-0 on the year. The Cowboys lost the other two doubles matches, giving SDSU the doubles point.
Biktyakov, the 89th-ranked singles player, won a close match against Derek Siddiqui in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 10-3. Senior Eric West picked up a win in the No. 4 spot against Rickey Baylon, 7-6 (4), 6-0.
SDSU scored upset victories against No. 60 Bondarenko and No. 77 Chris Haworth. Javier Pulgar beat Bondarenko 6-2, 7-6 (8), while Thorsten Bertsch defeated Haworth, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Cowboys return to the courts on Feb. 18 when they take on Oral Roberts in Tulsa.
