DUNSANY, Ireland - Former Oklahoma State golf standout Caroline Hedwall halved her singles match on Sunday at the Solheim Cup to help the European squad to a 15-13 victory over the United States at Killeen Castle.
The 2010 NCAA champion halved her match with Ryann O'Toole to help Europe win the event for the first time since 2003. Hedwall trailed for much of her match, falling 2 down after the first three holes. After winning the next two with pars to square the match, she lost the ninth and 11th to go back to 2 down. The two players halved the next five holes before Hedwall won the 17h with a par and the 18th with a birdie to get back to square.
For the event, Hedwall finished with a 2-1-1 mark.
During Friday's fourball matches, Hedwall was paired with Sophie Gustafson and registered a 5 and 4 victory over Vicky Hurst and Brittany Lincicome to earn her first point for the European side.
During Saturday's foursome matches, Hedwall once again teamed with Gustafson, defeating Angela Stanford and Stacy Lewis, 6 and 5. During the afternoon's fourball matches, Hedwall paired with Suzann Petterson and fell, 1 up, to Morgan Pressel and Cristie Kerr.
