MIRABEL, Quebec - Former Oklahoma State All-American Pernilla Lindberg fired a 65 during the first round at the CN Canadian Women's Open on Thursday to stand atop the leaderboard at Hillsdale Golf and Country Club.
Lindberg's 7-under score, knotted her with Ai Miyazato for the top spot. The duo finished the day a shot clear of Samantha Richdale at the par-72, 6,604-yard layout. Lindberg's 65, which was her career-low round on the LPGA Tour, featured eight birdies and one bogey.
"I was driving it great, barely missed a fairway and felt easy with my irons. If I was off, it wasn't by much," Lindberg said. "Today I was just patient, and finally all the good things that I know I have came together."
Starting her day on the back nine, she opened with three-straight birdies before carding her lone blemish of the day at the 13th. Lindberg made her fourth birdie on the outward nine at the 15th to turn at 3-under 33.
After birdies at Nos. 1 and 2, Lindberg added two more birdies at the sixth and seventh for a 4-under 32 on her closing nine.
Former Cowgirl Caroline Hedwall fired a 3-under 69 to finish the day tied for 19th, while Karin Sjodin posted a 73 to stand in a tie for 89th place.
