Cowgirls Grab 36-Hole Lead In Chicago

GOLF, Ill. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team opened play on Monday at the Windy City Collegiate Classic with a 36-hole total of 589 to grab a six-shot lead at Glen View Club.
The Cowgirls started with a 291 at the par-72, 6,333-yard layout to lead by five over Ohio State after the morning round. OSU followed with a 298 during the afternoon's second round to stand at 13-over par and six shots ahead of Arizona.
Tulsa's Kristina Merkle carded a pair of 71s for a 2-under 142 to lead the individual race by one shot over two Cowgirl newcomers.
Making her Cowgirl debut, Amy Ruengmateekhun followed an opening 70 with a 73 to get to her 1-under total. A transfer from SMU, the sophomore posted four birdies during her first round en route to her 2-under score to stand in a tie for first place. She followed with a 1-over tally during the afternoon to move into the No. 2 spot with Kelsey Vines.
After opening with a 74, Vines moved up the leaderboard during her second round with a 3-under 69 to join her teammate in second place. During her second round, the junior transfer from BYU made the turn at 1-under 35 before moving to 4-under par with birdies at Nos. 12, 13 and 15 before posting her lone bogey on the inward nine at the 17th to come in with a 2-under 34.
Sophomore Jayde Panos carded rounds of 73 and 77 to finish the day tied for 24th place at 150, while classmate Lauren Falley posted scores of 74 and 79 for a 153 total to tie for 38th place.
Senior Jocelyn Alford finished in a tie for 57th place at 156 after carding rounds of 76 and 80.
The Cowgirls will begin their final round tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Arizona and Ohio State.
