WILMINGTON, N.C. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team posted a 294 during its second round at the NCAA Championship on Wednesday to move into a tie for 10th place at the Country Club of Landfall.
The Cowgirls played in the afternoon wave, which endured two separate lightning delays totaling nearly two hours. The delays ultimately resulted in play being suspended for six of the 24 teams until tomorrow morning.
OSU used its 6-over round to move into a tie with Auburn at 13-over 589 at the par-72, 6,368-yard layout. At the midway point of the event, Southern California leads by seven shots and is the lone squad in the field under par at 6-under 570. Alabama stands in second at 1-over 577 with Purdue (578) and UCLA (580) finishing the day within 10 shots of the lead.
Arizona State's Jennifer Johnson took sole possession of the top spot on the leaderboard after posting a 70 of her own for a 137 total. USC's Jennifer Song is second at 138.
National player-of-the-year candidate Caroline Hedwall improved her position in her quest for her fourth individual title of the spring. The OSU sophomore posted her second-straight 70 to stand in a four-way tie for third place at 4-under 140. Hedwall finished the day knotted with Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Purdue, Arizona's Margarita Ramos and Cyna Rodriguez of USC.
Hedwall began her day on the back nine and opened play with six-straight pars. After a bogey at the 16th, Hedwall turned at 1-under 35 after posting back-to-back birdies at the 17th and 18th. The Loddekopinge, Sweden native recorded two more birdies on the front side, taking advantage of both par fives with birdies at Nos. 4 and 6.
Freshman Victoria Park moved up 35 spots into a tie for 29th after posting an even-par 72 for a 147 total.
A pair of Cowgirl freshmen finished tied for 70th at 151 as Courtney McKim and Hillary Wood both finished the day with 7-over par totals. McKim posted a 75, while Wood posted a 77.
Freshman Eyglo Oskarsdottir carded her second-straight 83 for a 166 total to finish in 125th place.
Play will resume at 7:30 a.m. (EST) with a shotgun start for those players that did not complete their rounds. Once Round Two is finished there will be an approximate one-hour break before the third round gets underway.
