Cowgirls Extend Lead At Big 12 Championship

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team carded a 296 during its second round at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club to extend its lead heading into tomorrow's final round.
The Cowgirls began the day with a six-shot cushion before pushing the margin to 10 shots with their 8-over par second round at the par-72, 6,327-yard layout. OSU currently stands at 13-over 589. Texas is second at 599, while Texas A&M and Kansas State are tied for third at 600.
OSU has the top two players on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Caroline Hedwall and freshman Victoria Park currently stand 1-2 and are the only two players in the field below par through 36 holes.
The duo entered the day tied for first before Hedwall used a 5-under 67 to move to 137 and four shots clear of Park. The 2009 Big 12 Player of the Year, Hedwall made the turn at 2-under 34 after posting birdies at Nos. 3, 5 and 8. She followed with three-straight birdies to begin her inward nine before closing with six-straight pars to post the tournament's first round in the 60s.
Park followed her opening 70 with a 1-under 71 on Saturday to stand alone in second at 141 and five shots clear of Kansas State's Morgan Moon. Like Hedwall, Park posted six birdies during her second round, including birdies at Nos. 3, 5 and 8 on the front side to turn at 1-under 35. Park closed with an even-par back nine that featured birdies at Nos. 12 and 13 as well as No. 16.
Freshman Courtney McKim joined her teammates in the top 10, finishing the day tied for 10th at 5-over 149. After an opening round of 72, McKim posted a 77 on Saturday.
Freshman Eyglo Oskarsdottir posted her second consecutive 81 and is tied for 54th place at 162.
Freshman Hillary Wood's 83 put her in 58th place at 165.
The Cowgirls will look to sew up their third-straight conference title tomorrow morning when they begin play at 8:50. OSU will play with Texas and Texas A&M.
