NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team used a 5-over par score of 293 on Friday during the first round of the Big 12 Championship to grab the lead at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman.
The Cowgirls' total put them six shots clear of the field at the par-72, 6,327-yard layout. Texas Tech finished the day in second at 299, while Iowa State was alone in third at 300.
The top of the leaderboard was filled with Cowgirls after three of the day's top five scores came from OSU players.
Leading the way for head coach Annie Young's squad were Caroline Hedwall and Victoria Park, who both fired 70s to stand atop the individual standings.
Starting on the back nine, Hedwall got to 2-under through four with birdies at the 10th and 13th before falling back to even with a double bogey at the 16th. However, the sophomore got back into red figures with a birdie at the fourth and moved into a tie with Park after posting her fourth birdie of the day at the par-4 ninth hole.
Park also got off to a fast start with birdies at Nos. 12 and 13. The freshman got to 4-under par for the day with birdies on Nos. 18 and 1. After bogeys at 2, 6 and 7 dropped her back to 1-under par, the freshman bounced back with a birdie at the eighth to match her low round of the spring.
Texas Tech's Rosalyn Kim was the only other player under par on the day, finishing with a 71.
OSU freshman Courtney McKim came in at even-par 72 to stand in a tie for fourth place with Colorado's Emily Talley. McKim put together a round that included four birdies to mark the third time in her last four rounds she has finished at par or better.
Freshman Eyglo Oskarsdottir carded an 81 during her first round to come in tied for 53rd place, while fellow freshman Hillary Wood's 82 tied her for 56th place.
The Cowgirls will begin their second round tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. and will be grouped with Texas Tech and Iowa State.
