TUCSON, Ariz. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team posted a 304 first-round total on Monday at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at Arizona National Golf Club to stand in a tie for eighth place.
The Cowgirls' 20-over score knotted them with Denver for eighth and was two shots behind California for seventh place. Arizona State holds a three-shot lead over Stanford after posting a 290. Due to rain, Monday's second round was canceled and the tournament was shortened from 54 to 36 holes.
Battling the inclement conditions, just three players in the field broke par. Pepperdine's Taylor Karle snared the individual lead with a 3-under 68 and was followed by Alison Whitaker of Duke, who finished with a 69.
OSU sophomore Caroline Hedwall was the third player in red figures with a 1-under 70. Starting on hole No. 4, Hedwall stood at 1-over through 10 holes after a double bogey at the 13th. However, she answered with a birdie three holes later and closed her round with a birdie at the par-4 third to dip back below par.
Freshman Victoria Park finished in a tie for 22nd place with a 75, while freshman Courtney McKim's 78 tied her for 47th place.
Freshman Eyglo Oskarsdottir carded an 81 to come in tied for 74th place.
Freshman Hillary Wood rounded out the lineup with a 93 to stand in 92nd place.
The Cowgirls will begin tomorrow's final round at 8:00 a.m. (MST) and will be grouped with Tennessee, Auburn and Southern California.
