PRIMM, Nev. - Oklahoma State's women's golf team closed play at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Tuesday with a 293 to finish in fifth place at Primm Valley Golf Club's Desert Course.
The Cowgirls tallied a 22-over total of 886 to come in two strokes behind Ohio State for fourth place. Pepperdine's final round 288 was good for an 881 total and a one-shot victory over California.
OSU's Caroline Hedwall finished off her wire-to-wire victory in dominating fashion after closing with a 5-under 67. The sophomore's bogey-free round gave her a five-shot cushion and her second career victory. The win marks the second consecutive year Hedwall has opened the fall season with a win after taking medalist honors at last year's Duramed Fall Preview.
The first-team All-American finished at 9-under 207 and was one of just two players in the field to come in under par for the event. UC Irvine's Joy Trotter posted a 212 total and was the event's runner-up.
Hedwall went out in 3-under 33 with birdies on Nos. 3, 7 and 9 before adding birdies on Nos. 11 and 16 to get to her 5-under total. Her 2-under 34 on her back nine pushed her to 6-under par for the week on the back nine. Hedwall took advantage of the par-72, 6,135-yard layout over her three rounds, making six birdies against zero bogeys.
Freshman Jane Rah joined Hedwall in the top 20 after tying for 18th place. Rah posted a 77 to close play at 7-over 223.
Freshman Victoria Park carded a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 225 and tied for 26th place.
Freshman Courtney McKim's 75 tied her for 40th place at 231, while freshman Hillary Wood's 77 put her in 87th place at 250.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Sept. 25 at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn.
