LANCASHIRE, England - A trio of Oklahoma State players began play on Thursday at the Ricoh Women's British Open as Caroline Hedwall, Karin Sjödin and Emma Zackrisson are all in action at Royal Lytham and St. Annes Golf Club.
Sjödin and Zackrisson, both former OSU standouts from Sweden, led the Cowgirl contingent with 75s at the par-72, 6,402-yard layout. Their 3-over scores put them among the group tied for 24th place.
Germany's Sandra Gal paced the field with a 69 and was one of just five players among the 144 in the field to break par on the day.
A sophomore-to-be for OSU, Hedwall opened with a 7-over 79 to finish among the group tied for 76th place.
Hedwall carded a 75 during the final qualifier for the Open at Fairhaven Golf Club. The 1-over score got her into a playoff where she claimed the last of the 20 qualifying spots.
Sjödin will be in the morning wave of tee times for Round Two, starting at 9:04 local time. Hedwall and Zackrisson will go off in consecutive groups, teeing off at 2:00 p.m. and 2:11 p.m., respectively.
