COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Oklahoma State's women's golf team wrapped up its ninth consecutive NCAA Championship berth on Saturday after finishing in fourth place at the NCAA Central Regional at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
On a day that saw scores balloon at the par-72, 6,246-yard layout due to gusting winds, the second-seeded Cowgirls posted a 24-over score of 312 during their final round to dip from the No. 3 spot into fourth place. OSU finished with a 54-hole total of 901, 37-over par.
None of the 21 teams in the field broke 300 with UCLA turning in the low round of the day with a 15-over 303. The Bruins cruised to the team title, finishing at 13-over 877 and 19 shots ahead of runner-up Purdue's 896. Wake Forest finished two shots ahead of the Cowgirls for third place at 899.
Despite snapping OSU's two-tournament winning streak, the finish made it five top-five showings in six tournaments under first-year head coach Annie Young.
The Cowgirls did place a pair of freshmen in the top 10 with Caroline Hedwall and Caroline Masson tying for 10th place at 9-over 225. Masson posted a 77 during her final round to earn her fifth career top 10, while Hedwall's 79 was good for her sixth top-10 outing.
UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe took top individual honors with a 4-under total of 212.
Senior Pernilla Lindberg finished a stroke behind her teammates with a 226 total after carding a 79 of her own to wrap up play.
Karin Kinnerud matched Masson for the squad's low round of the day. The OSU senior's 77 gave her a 54-hole total of 231 and tied her for 35th place.
Senior Amanda Johnson finished with an 82 for a 242 title, tying her for 78th place.
The top eight squads in the 21-team field advanced to the NCAA Championship finals at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. on May 19-22.
Last September, the Cowgirls finished sixth at Caves Valley during the Duramed Fall Preview. However, OSU did produce the event's individual medalist with Hedwall taking top honors in her first collegiate start.
