Cowgirl Golf Moves Into Third At NCAA Central Regional

Oklahoma State's women's golf team carded a 4-over 292 score during the second round of action at the NCAA Central Regional on Friday to move up one spot into third place at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
The No. 2 seed in the event, OSU has a 13-over total of 589 and trails Purdue's 584 tally by five shots for the runner-up position at the par-72, 6,246-yard layout. Top-seeded UCLA remained the only team in the field under par, carding a 290 for a 36-hole total of 574, 2-under par.
The Bruins also maintained the top two spots on the individual leaderboard. Stephanie Kono and Maria Jose Uribe remained deadlocked after carding 70s during their second rounds. The tandem will begin tomorrow's final round at 139 and a stroke ahead of the field.
A pair of Cowgirls moved into the top 10 as senior Pernilla Lindberg and freshman Caroline Hedwall each moved up in the standings.
Hedwall overcame three bogeys in her first four holes with birdies on her 10th and 11th holes of the day. The Lodderopinge, Sweden native ran off five consecutive pars before closing with a birdie to get back to level par. Hedwall stands at 2-over 146 and tied for eighth place.
Linderg went out with a 1-over 37 before playing her back nine at even par to post a 1-over 73. The Bollnäs, Sweden native moved up three spots into a tie for 10th place at 147.
Freshman Caroline Masson followed her opening 74 with another 2-over performance to stay tied for 13th place at 148.
Senior Karin Kinnerud posted a 79 during her second round and will begin her final 18 holes tied for 53rd at 154.
After opening with an 87 on Thursday, senior Amanda Johnson turned in a 1-over 73 on Friday. Johnson tallied a bogey-free front nine that included one birdie and posted another birdie on her 17th hole on the way to her total, which moved her up 20 spots into a tie for 84th place at 160.
The Cowgirls will look to seal their ninth consecutive NCAA Championship berth with tomorrow's final round. The top eight squads in the 21-team field will advance to the finals at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. on May 19-22.
