IRVING, Texas --Oklahoma State's women's golf team had four players honored on Thursday with the announcement of the All-Big 12 team by the league office.
Freshman Caroline Hedwall headlined the group after being named the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Year. The distinction marks the second consecutive year OSU has produced the league's top player and newcomer.
Hedwall has four top-five showings on the year, including a win in her collegiate debut at the Duramed Fall Preview.
The OSU freshman was joined on the all-conference squad by senior teammates Pernilla Lindberg and Amanda Johnson as well as freshman Caroline Masson.
Lindberg, who was the 2008 Big 12 Player of the Year, was named a first-team selection for the fourth time in her career, while Johnson was tabbed for the first time in her career. Lindberg tied Hedwall for third at the Big 12 Championship to match her best outing of the year. Johnson finished fifth in the event for her best finish of the season.
Masson has four top 10s during her first season, including a runner-up at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
The quartet has led OSU to a No. 4 national ranking this year and a pair of victories, including its second consecutive Big 12 title last weekend.
The 2009 All-Big 12 Team was identified using the top 10 highest-ranked student-athletes according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings following the Big 12 Championship. The team increased to 11 individuals to include Texas A&M's Ashley Freeman, who was this year's medalist at the Big 12 Championship.
The Player and Newcomer of the Year are automatically selected as the highest ranked individual from the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings following the conference championship.
