Three Cowgirls Receive All-America Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Three members of the Oklahoma State women's golf team were among those honored with the announcement of the National Golf Coaches Association All-America teams on Friday night.
Freshman Caroline Hedwall was one of 11 players named to the squad's first team, while senior Pernilla Lindberg was a second-team selection and freshman Caroline Masson received honorable mention recognition. In addition, Hedwall and Masson were named to the All-Central Region squad.
The trio led the Cowgirls to a No. 4 national ranking and two team titles this past season. In its first season under head coach Annie Young, OSU won the Ping/ASU Invitational and defended its title at the Big 12 Championship. Most recently, the Cowgirls closed out the 2008-09 campaign with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championship this past week.
Hedwall earned her first career win in her collegiate debut, claiming the top spot at the Duramed Fall Preview last September. The Lodderopinge, Sweden native wrapped up her fall with a fifth-place showing at the Las Vegas Collegiate. This spring, she finished with four top 10s in seven starts, including third-place finishes at the Wildcat Invitational and the Big 12 Championship.
Lindberg, who was twice named a first-team All-American, closed her collegiate career with a strong showing at the NCAA Championship, finishing third. The Bollnäs, Sweden native had two other third-place performances, tying for third at the Mason Rudolph Championship and the Big 12 Championship. Overall, Lindberg had five top 10s during her final season.
Masson was recognized after producing five top 10s during her rookie season. The Gladbeck, Germany native produced a runner-up showing at the Stanford Intercollegiate last fall and had a ninth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship last month.
The All-America squads as well as the NGCA's student-athlete and coaches award winners were recognized at the NGCA Division I Awards Banquet following the NCAA Championship on Friday in Owings Mills, Md.
