Cowgirl Golfers Lead Big 12 Championships By 13 Strokes

Manhattan, Kan. - Oklahoma State senior Emma Zackrisson was two-under-par on the back nine en route to a three-under 69 during the first round of the Big 12 Championships here Friday afternoon.
Zackrisson's score was the only sub-par round of the day, and led the sixth-ranked Cowgirls to a first-round lead with a team score of 293, 13 strokes ahead of second place.
Junior Christi Cano shot even-par 72 for the round, including three-under on the back nine, to finish second on the first day. She carded a 33 on the back nine and was one of three Cowgirls with a sub-par final-nine holes.
Freshman Annie Thurman shot a 74, good enough for fourth place. Both Linda Wessberg and Jenny Karr shot 78, tying for 22nd place.
Baylor and Oklahoma are tied for second at 306, while Texas is in fourth place at 312. Kansas State rounds out the top-five teams with a 313.
Also today, the Big 12 Conference office announced the women's golf All-Big 12 team. The Oklahoma State trio of Emma Zackrisson, Christi Cano and Linda Wessberg all made the five-person squad.
For Zackrisson, a two-time All-Tournament honoree, it is her first conference honor, as it is for Cano. Wessberg was named first-team all-conference her freshman season, and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors her sophomore year.
Other members were Texas' Janice Oliviencia, honored as the Big 12 Golfer of the Year, and Lisa Meldrum of Oklahoma.
