Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State scored three runs in both the third and sixth innings, propelling the Cowgirl softball team to a 7-1 victory over the Wichita State Shockers here Wednesday night in the final regular-season game for OSU. The win improves Oklahoma State's record to 25-21 overall.
The Cowgirls scored one run in the second when Teresa Ritchie walked with two outs and was followed by an RBI double by Jade Lindly. OSU added three in the third on three hits, including back-to-back RBI singles by senior Amanda Hayes and sophomore Ryan Realmuto.
Cowgirl starter Tiffany Paper faced the minimum through four innings before Ande Kleckner walked to lead off the fifth. Lisa Clary broke up the no-hitter two batters later, and later scored on a base hit down the leftfield line by Courtney Crumbliss just past the outstretched glove of third baseman Jenny Kipp.
Ritchie led off the sixth with a home run, her first of the season, that hit the leftfield poll about three-quarters from the top. Shortstop Casey O'Neill, who went 2-for-3 in the game, singled and later scored on a bases-loaded walk by Kipp. With two outs, WSU second baseman Nicki Mooers committed an error, her second of the game, allowing Danielle Thomas to score from third.
Paper threw five innings, giving up just one run on two hits while striking out five. Freshman Kara Wentworth threw the final two innings, giving up just one run.
The next action for Oklahoma State will be on Thursday, May 10, at the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Cowgirls will play at 11 a.m. as either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the tournament, facing either Kansas or Texas Tech.
