Cowgirl Basketball Topples Golden Hurricane, 70-58

The Cowgirls, who never trailed in the contest, raced out to an 8-0 lead to start the contest and took a 41-29 advantage into the halftime locker room after hitting on 48.4 percent of their shots. Junior guard Chantoya Hawkins scored 10 of her 14 points in the frame, including a pair of three-point baskets.
Senior forward Tari Cummings led the charge defensively in the first 20 minutes for OSU with five steals, while junior guard Shelby Hutchens chipped in with four of her own.
In the second stanza, the Cowgirls built the margin to 21 points before the Golden Hurricane cut the deficit with an 11-0 run. OSU senior Nikki Lawrence hit a jumper with 1:46 to halt the run and push the lead back to 12 points.
After a free throw and a layup by TU dropped the lead into single digits with 1:12 remaining, a Hawkins free throw and a jumper by senior forward Kara Faulk sealed the outcome.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Sunday when they host Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. in Stillwater.
