Cowgirl Basketball Rolls Past Oral Roberts, 83-52

STILLWATER, Okla.- Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rode the hot hand of junior guard Chantoya Hawkins to an 83-52 win over Oral Roberts on Sunday night in the third game of the Bertha Teague Classic at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Raytown, Mo. native connected on eight of her 11 shots, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and finished the game with 21 points on her way to earning the tournament's MVP award.
The Golden Eagles (0-3) took a 10-6 lead at the 15:43 mark of the first half on guard Krista Ragan's second three-point basket of the game and extended the lead to seven on a three by guard Cory Williston nearly one minute later.
OSU (2-0) got a jumper from senior forward Kara Faulk at the 10:46 to spark an 11-0 run that put the home team in front for good. The Cowgirls turned up the defensive pressure in the latter stages of the half, propelling them to a 40-27 advantage at the intermission.
With 9:35 remaining in the game, Hawkins extended the lead to 24 with another three-point bucket on an assist from junior guard Shelby Hutchens. Hutchens dished out a game-high nine assists to go along with 11 points.
Freshman forward Julie Dawson helped OSU finish strong, scoring seven points and pulling four rebounds in the final four minutes to push the lead to 29. Senior guard Machell Roberts gave the Cowgirls their biggest lead of the night on a layup with two ticks remaining on the clock.
Hawkins was joined on the all-tournament team by senior forward Tari Cummings, who averaged 11 points and seven rebounds during the tournament.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Wichita, Kan., to take on Wichita State at 7 p.m.
