Cowgirl Golf Finishes Sixth At Auburn Derby

Auburn, Ala. - Oklahoma State's ninth-ranked Cowgirl golf team tied for sixth at the Auburn Derby - Tribute to USA this past weekend here at the Auburn University Club, shooting a low round of 293 on the final day to move up from 10th place. All 12 teams that competed in the tournament are currently ranked in the top 25 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Women's Team Rankings.
Eighth-ranked Georgia won the team title with a three-round total of 885. Top-ranked Auburn finished second at 890, while seventh-ranked Tennessee finished third at 892. No. 17 Arizona finished fourth at 899, and the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils rounded out the top five with a 902. OSU and No. 2 Tulsa tied for sixth with a three-day score of 910.
Cowgirl junior Linda Wessberg shot par-72 on the final two days to move up to fifth place in the individual standings. Freshman Annie Thurman took home an eighth-place finish, two strokes behind Wessberg at 223. Junior Christi Cano tied for 29th with a 230, senior Emma Zackrisson finished with a 238 and Jenny Karr finished with a 244.
Arizona's Lorena Ochoa, the Golfer of the Year last season, won the individual title with a six-under-par 210. Summer Sirmons of Georgia and Tennessee's Young-A Yang tied for second with an even-par 216. Georgia's Angela Jerman finished fourth with a 220, and OSU's Wessberg tied Stacy Prammanasudh of Tulsa and Auburn's Courtney Swaim for fifth with a 221.
