Cowgirls Fall To Australian Institute Of Sport, 57-56

ENID, Okla. - Nicole Carr hit a 10-foot jumper with 3.3 seconds remaining as the Australian Institute of Sport defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 57-56, here Thursday evening in OSU's first exhibition game of the 2000-01 season in the Chisholm Trail Expo Center.
Oklahoma State took an early 5-0 lead on a three-point and a jumper by freshman Trisha Skibbe. The Oxford, Kan., rookie started the first game of her OSU career.
OSU led by as many as six in the first period when junior Jessica Spinner hit a pair of free throws at the 14:15 mark. However, AIS went on a 6-0 run to take the lead, and led, 28-25, at halftime.
After falling behind by as many as seven in the second stanza, the Cowgirls took a one-point lead when Spinner hit a trey from the left corner on a nice pass by Chantoya Hawkins. OSU got up by as many as seven with eight minutes remaining at 48-41.
With under a minute to play, the Cowgirls took a 56-53 lead when junior Kara Faulk hit two free throws. Shelley Hammonds, who recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, hit a jumper with 36 seconds remaining in the game to cut the lead to one.
With a seven-second differential in the game clock and the shot clock, Hawkins attempted a drive to the basket, but was stripped by Carly Wilson. Wilson passed the ball to Carr, who hit her game-winning shot.
Oklahoma State will host KSC-Szekszard, a Hungarian team, in its final exhibition game of the preseason on Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Abe Lemons Arena on the OCU campus in Oklahoma City.
